Fungal Nail Eradication
Fungal nail infections (onychomycosis) are extremely common, affecting approximately 1 in 10 people in the UK. They can affect both toenails and fingernails and occur when fungal organisms infect the nail and the surrounding nail bed.
As the infection develops, the nail may become thickened, discoloured (yellow, brown or white), brittle or misshapen. Debris can build up beneath the nail, and in some cases the nail may develop an unpleasant odour. Without treatment, the infection can spread to neighbouring nails and surrounding skin.
Why Choose Laser Treatment?
Advances in medical laser technology have transformed the treatment of fungal nail infections. Our medical-grade 1064nm laser delivers controlled energy through the nail plate to target the fungal organisms beneath, where topical treatments often struggle to reach.
Unlike oral antifungal medication, laser treatment does not involve systemic medication, making it an excellent option for patients who cannot take oral antifungals or wish to avoid their potential side effects. It is also a convenient alternative to topical treatments, which require prolonged daily application and may have limited penetration through the nail.
Medical-Grade Technology
We use an MHRA-approved medical laser specifically designed to treat fungal nail infections. The laser energy penetrates deep into the nail unit to create an environment that is unfavourable for fungal organisms while preserving the surrounding healthy tissue.
Treatment is quick, with little to no downtime, allowing you to return to your normal activities immediately after your appointment.
What Results Can I Expect?
Clinical studies have demonstrated that laser treatment can significantly reduce fungal infection and improve the appearance of affected nails. As the fungus is treated, healthy new nail gradually grows from the base of the nail.
Because nails grow slowly, visible improvement takes time. Toenails may take 9–18 months to fully grow out, while fingernails typically take 4–6 months. The number of treatments required varies depending on the severity and duration of the infection.
For the best possible outcome, we recommend following the aftercare advice provided and taking steps to minimise the risk of reinfection.
